. 14 must-try healthy and comforting muffin recipes .

October 21, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 38 Comments

We’re playing favourites today. Kind of.

Because while I wouldn’t be able to tell you my favourite colour, song, movie, actor, number, or food, I can tell you that muffins are my absolute favourite thing in the world to bake [and eat]. For the most part. Cookies and bars are pretty high up there too, but muffins take the cake.

See, I’m a carb-loving girl through and through, so biting into the soft and fluffy doughiness of a muffin makes me weak in the knees. Pair that with a warm mug of coffee or tea, and there’s my idea of comfort [snack] food right there… especially if said muffin is as big as my face. And loaded with chocolate. Or bananas. Or both. Swooooon.

And the best part is that, in addition to being absolutely delicious, muffins can actually be pretty darn healthy. Need proof? I just so happen to have a collection of MUST-TRY healthy and comforting muffin recipes for you today. Whether they’re gluten-free, vegan, made with whole wheat flour, Greek yogurt in place of oil, or natural sugars in place of refined ones, each of these muffin recipes is good for both the body and soul. Just click on the link or picture to go straight to the recipe!

A MUST TRY collection of healthy and comforting muffin recipes that are good for the body and soul. Whether they're made with whole wheat, lightened up with Greek yogurt, or made with minimal amounts of refined sugar, these are muffins you can feel great about eating! || runningwithspoons.com #healthy #muffins

Man these all look so good! I’m finally into the fall baking … I’m not just in the mood for it now. I’m actually doing it. While I write, I’m baking pumpkin bread. WoOT!

I thought I wasn’t so phased with muffins and then I saw this post! They all look so good.
I think if I could choose any muffin to eat right now it would be banana and choc chip! I used to be a baker and loved making tasty treats but I must admit now I much prefer cooking savoury food so if we are going to bake then David does it!

How about this — I move to Australia and live in your spare room  You can cook me dinner and I’ll do all the baking — my cooking skills are definitely subpar!

You just can’t go wrong with a soft, pillow like muffin. I now want one of each of these…all at once.

Ohhh, it’s hard to pick what my favourite thing is to bake. I love making cakes, but my decorating skills are less than awesome so I don’t love that part. I make a pretty fabulous cookie though. And pies are fun.
As for muffins – Morning Glory muffins. So good. Chocolate chip is a close second though.

You can come make cakes for me! They’re probably my -least- favourite because of how much work goes into them… I usually end up using a box mix 😆

All of these look freaking amazing, and now I’m suddenly starving. Would it be too much trouble to ask for one of each? Wait, better make it two.

Muffins just might be my favorite baked good, definitely more so than cookies. They’re just so fluffy and comforting.

I’ve been craving muffins and chocolate lately to be honest. I’m glad I’m not the only one. My favorite kind is definitely anything with a ton of chocolate. Thanks for putting this together!

Oh yes, I feel the same way about muffins. I just had one smeared with almond butter for breakfast…the BEST.

I’m honored to be included in your round-up, lady! Especially because my recipe has peanut butter. 😉

Eeeek muffins actually make me ridiculously happy – I should bake some soon! I don’t discriminate between types much. Chocolate? Apple? Pumpkin? Berry? If it’s warm and fluffy and comforting, I’m in!

My favorite thing to bake is probably still cookies but I do like a nice muffin. My heart forever belongs to Dunkin Donuts chocolate chip muffins with the sugar crystals on top — however– Whole Foods had a nice muffin selection the other day!
