. thinking out loud #126 .

April 16, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 94 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. First and foremost, I have to send out a huge Happy Birthday to Papa Spoons! I just realized that I don’t have a recent picture of me and the big guy, so we’re gonna have to rock some #tbt action for this one…

Daddy's Little Girl

I don’t think we’ll be able to celebrate unit this weekend, but you best believe that chocolate cake will be involved.

2. In love with this song. In love. Now excuse me while I play it on repeat until I can’t stand it anymore.

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI_TvHh0xSc&w=640&h=427″]

3. Have you heard about the “granny” hair trend? Where young women are colouring their hair a silverish blue? Apparently it’s one of the top hair trends these days, but I’m not too sure how I feel about it… I guess it looks kind of neat when done properly, but there’s no way I’d be able to pull it off. I mean, I can’t even remember the last time I went in to get my hair cut (oops)… never mind keeping up with getting my roots dyed regularly. I’ll rock this trend when I’m 60+… at which point it probably won’t be trendy anymore πŸ˜†

4. And another thing I can’t wrap my head around? The 10,000 Calorie Food Challenge. I’m not sure if this is something new or if it’s been around for a while, but it’s basically people trying to prove that they can scarf down 10,000 calories within 24 hours. I don’t even know. I don’t.even.KNOW. I mean, I love food and all, but even watching some videos on Youtube made me feel kind of sick, so I can’t even imagine what attempting it would do to me. I can tell you that we’ll probably never know…

5. Have you seen the new Emoji keyboard?! They finally added a Canadian flag!

Canada Flag Emoji

‘Bout time, too, considering I complained about the lack of one over a year ago. It’s awesome to see a wider variety of skin colours in there as well, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to call them out for blatantly discriminating against a certain [awesome & essential] piece of cutlery… #wheresthespoon?!?

Spoon Discrimination

6. I have this bad habit of buying bags of mixed things, picking out all my favourites first, and then being left with the bits that I don’t like and don’t know what to do with. In trail mix, the chocolate and dried fruit go first. In granola, it’s the clusters. And in frozen mixed berries, it’s everything but the strawberries. I love snacking on frozen fruit, but I’m not crazy about frozen strawberries. In fact, I’d probably go as far as to say that I straight up don’t like them… and now that’s all I have. Le sigh. Time to get my butt into the kitchen and start experimenting with strawberry recipes…

Frozen Strawberries

7. And while we’re on the topic of frozen foods, I need to tell you about my latest obsession — snacking on pieces of frozen toast, specifically the cinnamon raisin bread from Ezekiel. I know it sounds crazy — I know it does — but here’s the thing… I don’t really like Ezekiel bread when it’s thawed and/or toasted. It’s too dry and difficult to get down. But frozen is a whole other story. And don’t ask how I figured this out… I actually have no idea.

Frozen Ezekiel Bread

8. And last but not least, I think I’ve finally decided on what my first official run/race is going to be! There’s a Color Me Rad 5k happening here in July, and I figured that a fun run would be a great way to dip my toes into the realm of racing without any of the stress. That and I’ve always wanted to do a colour run, so it’s like killing two birds with one stone. Now to convince people to run it with me…

I don’t think I would be brave enough (or be able to pull off) dying my hair gray. That is an interesting hair trend…

Considering that my haor maybe starts to turn granny style in the next few years (haven’t seen any grey ones yet, phew! ) I don’t think I need to get this any earlier πŸ™‚
Frozen bread, oh, I guess I could go with that. I actually like bread when it’s overtoasted, aka a little burnt, so why not frozen.

The Color Me Rad 5k is SO much fun! I did it a couple summers ago in Utah, and it was a blast. I’m so glad you are doing it!

Haha – interesting about the frozen toast. πŸ˜‰ But hey, no judgment here…I have my strange loves too!!

I totally watched that 10,000 Calorie Food Challenge video and all I have to say is gross! I don’t understand why you would challenge yourself to be so full all day long that you just look uncomfortable! I mean really haha is it just me or what. I would totally be sleeping in between my meals if I were that guy!

I think it’s mostly just bragging rights and being able to say that they did something that’s pretty difficult. Because I don’t see most of them doing it again πŸ˜†

Since I get really tan in the summer (I’ll pay for this eventually), my friend joked about how I can change the skin tone with the seasons lol. Everyones got jokkkkkeeeezz!
I really like the gray hair look and, actually, I think YOU’D look really good with it because you have fair skin. I’d love to try it but I can barely change the color of my highlights and go beyond a “trim”… One day….. …………… ….. O.o

Happy Birthday to Papa Spoonie Spoons McSpoon!

That is too funny that you mention the “granny trend”…my client yesterday told me that her hair stylist, who is male, dyed his hair grey??? I think it’s weird…another trend that will come and go. πŸ™‚

I did see the new emoji keyboard and noticed some changes, but they left out one key thing…NO OWLS! I’m so mad about that I was hoping they’d add an owl. But that might not necessarily be a good thing because my friends might get random emoji messages of owls from me and that might annoy them…

And you will have a blast at the Color Me Rad!! That was my first 5k (the Color Run, but same concept) and warning- I got hooked! You might too πŸ˜‰ This time next year you’ll be signed up for your first half marathon!

A half?! Now that’s kind of a terrifying thought at this point πŸ˜† But holy.snap YES about the owls! I didn’t notice they were missing, but there should totally be one!

Ok seriously 10,000 Calories! What on earth! Then again I guess it’s kind of like those people that do the man vs food challenges – I just don’t see the point.
And I saw the grey/white hair trend – I do think it looks kinda pretty but I would never ever have the courage to do it!

One of my friends dyed her hair a light purple-grey and she looks FABULOUS. She’s always been super cool and hip (waaay more hip than me–haha), so she pulls it off quite well. I don’t think I would look nearly as good as she does with grey hair!

That is a great picture of you with your papa! Happy Birthday to him πŸ˜‰ There is absolutely no way I could pull off gray hair and make it look trendy….Mostly because I still get giddy when I’m carded ordering an adult beverage. That would certainly put a damper on my fleeting moments of happiness!

I have NEVER understood who gets to choose emoji’s – how do you leave out the spoon? And why on earth is there no cupcake?! I’m making your banana chocolate chip energy bites (from yesterday’s post) this weekend – can’t wait to try them out πŸ™‚

Thanks so much for hosting these link-ups, I just love reading through all the posts!

Happy birthday to Papa Spoons! Love that picture of you and him. That granny hair trend is, uh, interesting. I’m with you on rocking it out naturally when I’m in my 60s, at which point it won’t be cool anymore. I’m always a few steps behind on these things. =D When it comes to certain cereals, I definitely pick out all the dried fruit and goodies and leave everything else behind, too. I should just buy a big bag of the dried fruit and save myself the trouble, right? Sometimes I dissect my pizza, too, and pick off all the toppings. Yay for the Canadian flag emoji! About time is right!!!

YES to huge bags of dried fruit! They’re one of the only reasons that I’ll actually brave the craziness of Costco. Now if only I could find a way to ONLY get the Lucky Charms marshmallows without the cereal…

Hi Amanda! Thanks for hosting the link-up today! I will say that I’m not into the granny hairstyle at all and have seen it on a lot of celebs. Some people can pull it off, but it’s just not my favorite. And that’s great you have an upcoming race! Sounds like a good choice. Sending a big Happy Thursday to you!

Wait… you’re telling me people actually WANT to die their hair silver/blue? That’s so strange. It’s not like a “fun” blue, but they want to look like they have “granny hair”? That’s definitely one trend I will not be getting on board with. I’m pretty happy being a brunette. The color run was a lot of fun! I did it here a few months ago and it was freezing but I think I’d have a really good time doing it when it’s warmer. Plus, it’s the best first race to do!
