. thinking out loud #120 .

March 5, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 87 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. There are weeks where I keep a running list of things I want to talk about during ToL and weeks where I sit down to write without a single clue. This week happens to be the latter, so we’re going to fly by the seat of our pants and see where it takes us.

2. We’re also going to [try and] include a selfie in each one of these posts because it adds a nice little personal touch, no? (Hi!!!!)

Smile!

And now we’re going to stop referring to ourselves in the the plural form before people start thinking we I suffer from multiple personality disorder. I don’t. I swear.

3. Speaking of selfies… you know all the cool and collected coffee selfies I post from my trips to the moutnains? What you don’t see is my face after we go over a bump and the coffee comes flying out the little hole and lands all over me…

OMG Coffee

#winningatlife

4. Obsessed with this song. Ob.SESSED. The only thing is that I can’t watch the official music video because it makes me all sorts of ragey to see so much over the top objectification of women in the racing industry, especially because that’s a world I used to be pretty heavily involved in and I’ve had to deal with a lot of that nonsense myself. Boycott the song? Pretend the video doesn’t exist? Gah! Moral dilemma…

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB1Z6NbVEDs&w=640&h=427″]

5. At least picking out a snack hasn’t been as big of a problem. I’m seriously crushing on these no-bake carrot cake energy bites that I posted yesterday, and they taste even better after they’ve been frozen…

Carrot Cake Bites

6. I’ve had to cut back on the amount of potatoes I eat. I went through a phase where I was eating them around 3 times a week, and then I started getting these dull throbbing headaches… which is weird for me since I’ve never really been one to get headaches. I didn’t connect the dots at the time, but I stopped eating potatoes and the headaches went away… then I had them again and the headaches came back. I can’t say that potatoes were 100% responsible, but it would make sense since they’re nightshades and can trigger things like migraines and joint pain in some people. It makes me sad, though…

Roasted Potatoes

7. You know what else makes me sad? Going to the mountains and not being able to snowboard. My back is feeling about 95% better now, but I’m still bitter that it had to pick that exact weekend to act up. I couldn’t even go skating on the frozen lake on the off-chance that I’d lose my balance, flail my arms around to steady myself, and pass out from the pain that sort of thing would cause in my shoulder. And the worst part is that I won’t be able to go again for at least another month πŸ˜₯

Mountain Skating

8. Buuuuuut I really can’t complain since I’ll be heading to Maui in a week (omg!!! *happy dance*) If anyone has any recommendations of must-see places or must-do things, I’d really love it if you could share them with me! I’ve been spending a lot of time on sites like GoHawaii and checking out the top attractions, but I’d rather hear about someone’s personal experiences.

9. And on that note… Happy Thursday, friendly faces! Rock some socks off today πŸ˜€

I’m so selfie challenged. It’s my short arms! I think I’m going to make the carrot cake bites today. They look so yummy.

You should make a collection of those mountain pictures, and make a book of them! They are So beautiful every single time! I love the selfie at the start of each post, I agree that would make it more personal, and its nice to see your pretty face πŸ™‚ Those carrot cake bites had me thinking about them yesterday (did you notice they ended up on runners connect hahaha, I didnt want to change accounts, so I shared them with the world of runners….cause runners would love them too!)

That’s crazy about the headaches. It’s a shame that something healthy can cause you pain or suffering! Hopefully you can still enjoy them every once in a while without any side effects! I am glad your back is feeling better!

Those carrot cake bites look and sound so good. I missed that post. Going to have to go read it now and save the recipe! I love carrot cake! This could be dangerous!

    Have a great weekend!

Have fun in Maui! Thanks for hosting this link up, it’s one of my favorites! On a semi-unrelated note: I take all of my best selfies in the car too!

Interesting, I didn’t know that potatoes could cause headaches. Glad you figured out the issue, but bummer since you love them so much! And Maui, wow, SO jealous over that one. I’ve never been to Hawaii! Enjoy!

This is my first week linking up (yeah!) That tray of potatoes looks yummy, too bad you have to take a break from them. And have tonnes of fun in Maui, I just got back from O’ahu and it was amzaballs. I’ve been to Maui a couple years ago, and would recommend you do the road to Hana while you’re there (sooo beautiful) but if you do it in a convertible, leave the top up, because you are most certainly driving through a rain forest, and we saw a tonne of people trying to put the tops back up on their cars because a down pour had rolled in suddenly (they only lasted for a few minutes tho, so lots of sunshine!)

Thanks for the recommendation, Sara! I’ve been hearing a lot about the road to Hana and it’s definitely on the list.

I love your spilled coffee face! That blows about the potatoes. I think you should tell yourself it’s not the spuds and blame it on something else…okra maybe? πŸ˜‰

Hahaha I swear every time I get a hot drink from a cafe, I end up spilling part of it on myself. Especially from those darn bumpy roads! Someone needs to invent coffee cups that are 100% spill proof.

If I wasn’t going home in less than 4 weeks, I would demand you sneak me into your suitcase for your Hawaii trip πŸ˜‰ I’m jealous you get to experience some tropical weather! Not that I can complain about Calgary weather today, mind you.

How exciting to be going to Maui!! What an awesome trip! I had never heard that about potatoes but it makes perfect sense given the type of food it is. I learned something new. πŸ™‚

Well unfortunately today started off with some devastating news. One of our friends passed away from liver cancer last night. He leaves behind his wife and two children. one of his kids is actually in remission from leukemia. It breaks my heart to see his family go through this. He is also leaving behind a wonderful legacy. He inspired so many, completely changed his life around and started fundraising for cancer by running and doing triathlons. Heaven has gained another angel.

I hate when I go over unexpected bumps when I’m drinking coffee!!! … Or when I miss the hole to take a sip and it dribbles down my chin. Yeahhhh about that…

Currently, I am looking outside at aboooouuttt 6 inches of snow. Please take me with you. CABIN FEVER IS SETTING IN FAST!

I had no idea potatoes could cause headaches! I’ve had a lot more headaches lately than usual and I wonder if it’s a result of all the crazy weather we’ve had. My body is literally rejecting the idea of more snow, haha.
Super jealous of your upcoming trip!!

So jealous you’re going to Maui!! It’s one of my favourite places in the world. A few things I’d recommend are the Ulalena show, Twin Falls (SO GORGEOUS!), walking through the lava fields, the Swap Meet on Saturday mornings in Kahului is so great, and of course just hanging out on the beach with lots of fruit. And I can’t not talk about food sooo some of the best places to eat would be Choice Health Bar, Wow Wow Lemonade, Joy’s Place, Maka by Mana, and Down to Earth (which is also a great health food store). Okay wow I am apparently way too excited for you to go there. πŸ˜›
