. what’s in my purse .

by Amanda @ .running with spoons. on November 4, 2012

Happy Sunday friends!

Did you enjoy the extra hour of sleep last night? I definitely needed it – I didn’t end up getting to bed until around 1:30 last night (this morning?) for reasons that I’ll probably have to go into more detail about eventually, but for now let’s just say that the extra hour saved my butt. It also meant that I could finally take a decent picture of breakfast…

Β Plain Greek yogurt – banana – Kashi Cinnamon Harvest – Puffins – roasted almond butter

Β … which was delicious even though I wasn’t actually very hungry for it. I know…Β weird.Β Not sleeping. Not eating. I must be coming down with something πŸ˜‰ Thankfully, today’s NHBPM prompt is a pretty simple one – ‘what’s in your bag/purse/backpack every day.’Β I have no idea what that has to do with health, but it’s something I think I can handle even in my sleep deprived state.

I should probably begin by confessing that I haveΒ way too many purses.Β WayΒ too many. Some people have a thing for shoes, and I do too… BUT! I think I might love purses even more.Β I tend to switch up the bag I carry on a pretty regular basis, depending on whatever it is that I’m wearing, but this is the one that currently has all my junk in it so we’re going to go with that.

It was a Christmas present from my mom last year (I think?), and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Before writing this post, I didn’t think that I actually carriedΒ that many things around with me, but apparently I like being prepared…

First up, we have our basics…

Wallet – Keys – Phone

After that, some things I’d rather not be caught without…

Sunglasses – Gloves (I live in Canada…) – Moleskin notebook – pen

Next up, some emergency beauty products in case I ever need to freshen up…

Givenchy Hot Couture perfume – Maybelline Dream Matte Powder – Revlon lip butter – EOS lip balm – Aveeno hand cream – Contact lens solution/case – Revlon eyeliner – hair ties – bobby pins – rattail comb

And finally (and perhaps most importantly) food – because you should never leave home without it…

Gum – SunRype fruit & grain bar – Enjoy Life chew bar – random trail mix – candy bars

So there we have it. I’m kind of fussy about keeping my bag neat, so even though [I guess?] I carry a lot of stuff, there’s no loose change, empty wrappers, or other random junk littering the bottom. I don’t actually function too well in a messy environment, so I go through my bag pretty regularly to take out the useless stuff.

Before I go, I wanted to quickly apologize for the wonky posting schedule this weekend. I still don’t want to go intoΒ too much detail, but other things [read: people ;)] have been taking up a little more of my time Β so blogging has gotten pushed to the side. I’m starting to figure out a better schedule though, so things should go back to normal soon. Thanks for understanding. Hope you guys are having a great evening, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow πŸ˜€

. – . – . – .

Do you always eat breakfast/meals, even when you’re not hungry?
Do you carry a lot of stuff around with you? Is it messy or neat?Β

whatever is causing this wonky posting, I like it! I am intrigued by won’t pry, all I know is it has to be good. Couldn’t be happier for you. I actually don’t carry a purse, I like more of the side satchel type purses but actually carry a back pack, yes a back pack to work everyday. I am such the non girl it hurts.

Hehe. When I didn’t see a post up until this morning (cause I was asleep when your post went up), I just knew you must have been with the Starbucks guy. Details, please! :)

And I love to see what other people have in their bags. Always interesting. I always seem to have at least three types of lip balm in mine, way too many pens, and my planner (among many other things).

8 Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale November 4, 2012 at 6:35 pm

Wait for it …. !!!! Yeahhhh girl !!! πŸ˜‰ Coming down with something my lovely booty — unless it’s love sickness I’ll hear none of it!! (And if it is love sickness, I want to hear all of it!! πŸ˜‰ )
Every year, I ask myself what I’m going to do with my extra hour. I spent mine on the phone with a cute boy, sound like you used yours to your advantage too! Couldn’t be more smiley-omg-excited-gahthisissoawesome about it!!
Ps. I love how different we are with what we carry in our bags … and the bags themselves!! Polar opposites.

9 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 4, 2012 at 9:53 pm

As long as you carry snacks, we can still be friends πŸ˜‰

10 Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale November 5, 2012 at 3:34 am

Snacks and I are like PB and jelly — destined to be together. Actually, half the time my snacks consist of PB anyway. So I guess snacks and I are like PB and I — never to part!! <3
Your email sent me to bed with THE biggest smile on my face!! I can't wait to respond. xo

When it comes to breakfast I have to eat when I am not hungry, because me + no food = bad AimΓ©e. I also eat lunch and dinner if I’m not hungry (I will just usually have something smaller), as my blood sugar goes completely out of whack if I don’t.
As for eating snacks when I’m not hungry, don’t we all fall victim to that? I don’t think there’s anything necessarily wrong with it at all, as long as it’s not all the time snacking just because.
I get so confused, because in Australia a ‘purse’ is what you have called a wallet, a wallet is a men’s ‘purse’, and we carry handbags. My handbag is pretty small, but I love it so much that I just haven’t been able to find a better, bigger one like it, so often I have to cram everything in. I’ll admit it gets a bit messy at times, but I don’t carry that much, usually just my purse, phone, lip balm, food, and a notebook (which I never actually use).

12 Alexandra November 4, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Oooooohhhhhhhhh did these “people” you speak of include any hunky dudes??? πŸ˜‰ If that’s the case, I can totally forgive your bloggy schedule differences haha
You purse is SUPER cute by the way!!! I carry a crossbody kinda bag with me when I go shopping, but it’s usually just filled with the usual stuff– phone, wallet, sunglasses, and LIP BALM! πŸ˜€ Occasionally you may find a rogue banana or butterfinger floatin around in there, but for the most part it’s pretty status quo haha

13 Angela November 4, 2012 at 7:07 pm

woah this is just too weird! I carry the exact same make up as you in my purse LOL. Revlon lip butter strawberry shortcake, EOS lipbalm in honeydew melon, dream matte powder, even the same contact lens solution .. o_o I definitely am loving your sense of make up!

Do you normally leave your iPhone “naked”? Do you ever use a case for it? I’m so paranoid that mine will get scratched πŸ˜›

14 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 4, 2012 at 10:02 pm

I do leave it naked yeah, and it served me well for years until one day… it didn’t :( I dropped it and now the whole thing is cracked to bits so I don’t even bother with a case. I’ll definitely be getting one for my next phone though.

15 Sam @ Better With Sprinkles November 4, 2012 at 7:43 pm

I’m going to take the wonky posting as an excellent sign :-p

I love how much food you carry around in your purse – mine’s pretty similar. Although I am not a neat person at all, so there’s more receipts and change in there than I’d like to admit.

I might put off breakfast/a meal if I’m not hungry, but I won’t skip it. If I know I won’t get a chance to eat later, then I’ll force it down. Much rather eat a meal when I’m not hungry than be starving later! I know skipping meals doesn’t work out for me, so I know better than to try.

16 Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin November 4, 2012 at 9:03 pm

I am the same way with purses – I have quite a bit of stuff in mine at all times because I like to be prepared but it is never messy. I go through it every day and get rid of extra junk because I like organization :) And I too am eager to hear about what this mystery thing (person) that is taking up your time…. yeah girlll

17 Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie November 4, 2012 at 10:20 pm

We are purse twins for sure–I have a ton of purses and love to change mine up at least every other day. I love the one you’re using now, Coach bags are my favorite! And I carry the same things in mine, minus the gloves except on snowy days but I always carry around a little box filled with bandaids because I am such a klutz and happen to trip quite often…so having a bandaid on hand for those scrapes is necessary!

18 Sara @ Nourish and Flourish November 4, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Aww, Amanda, I’m feelin’ the giddiness!! Eee! I’m totally in favor of a wonky blogging schedule if it means you’re hanging out with *people* who make you smile. Whenever you’re ready to share the juicy details (and it’s obviously totally okay if you’re not!), I’m here to listen. :-)

EOS lip balm is the BEST. A friend introduced me to it a year ago, and I’ve been carrying it in my bag ever since. I also always carry a pack or two of gum; my breath needs to be fresh at all times because you never know when Mr. Right is going to walk through the door. πŸ˜‰ Another essential: a mini container of Body Shop body butter. I’m using coconut right now, but I also love vanilla spice and cocoa butter.

As far as meals go: I always eat according to the clock (very loosely though; about every 2-4 hours), but if I’m not hungry, I scale the portions back. Sometimes I’ll go for something completely unconventional too. The other day I had no appetite for “dinner,” but frozen yogurt and almonds sounded wonderful. Allowing myself the freedom to eat what I feel like, when I feel like it, makes for a much happier stomach. :)

19 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 5, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Aaahh I can’t wait to share! I just want to give it a bit more time first πŸ˜€ And I used to carry around those mini Body Shop butters all the time before I found out that flipping open the top of a squeezy tube was more convenient than having to unscrew lids. I still use the full sized ones at home though πŸ˜€

20 Lucie November 4, 2012 at 11:47 pm

Aaaah, I LOVE your purse! I am a total purse-girl too. I’ve got so many and love to choose them matching with my clothes or shoes. I carry around the same stuff. I even got mini-purses in my purse to keep the beauty-stiff together!

21 Albizia November 4, 2012 at 11:48 pm

Wonky schedule? Where? I don’t have time to check my Reader everyday so I usually read a bunch of posts at once. I have no idea at what time they come up and I don’t really care as long as they are there and stay positive (which might get even better thanks to the reason for the wonky schedule :) ).

I was going to ask about your phone but somebody already did :) Knowing how fragile iPhones are and how clumsy I am, I’d never leave it naked. It has a silicone case AND a fabric case. I don’t carry a lot of stuff but the stuff I carry is potentially dangerous to my poor phone. Yeah, I’m a girl having a Swiss knife in her backpack. Girly purses make an appearance only when I’m all dressed-up. There is never make up in my backpack because it just doesn’t fit the concept πŸ˜€ An umbrella is a must though. Snacks are available only if I know I won’t be able to buy anything good if I get hungry where I’m going. The thing I absolutely always carry with me? A bottle of water. I might leave the house without a cent but I’m not going anywhere without water. Litter at the bottom? Yes, madam. I always have some old receipts that I find annoying as hell but there are no recycle bins in the streets here (strange country, I know…) and I usually forget to clean up when I get home.

22 Jessie November 5, 2012 at 1:00 am

Okay this may seem so unlady like.. but I don’t really carry a purse unless I must! My purses used to look just like yours, but for some reason over the years they’ve just come non-existent??

23 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 5, 2012 at 2:55 pm

I actually kind of prefer not to carry them as well, so I’ll often just grab the few things I need and run out of the house that way. I had to have a fully stocked purse to post though πŸ˜‰

24 Sara @my less serious life November 5, 2012 at 4:39 am

yay for ‘people’ ;)!!!!

25 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 5, 2012 at 6:08 am

It sounds like things are going well with Mr. Starbucks!!! πŸ˜€ I can’t wait to hear more details!

I’m more of a minimalist girl when it comes to my purse – I usually just have my keys, wallet, phone, Epi-Pen, camera and lip chap. So my purse is pretty neat, but my wallet is a disaster. It’s stuffed to the brim with old receipts haha. πŸ˜›

26 Kat November 5, 2012 at 7:20 am

Ive really gotta try that lip butter!! You raved about it in that one post, I just dont know what color to get! MY skin tone is kindy funky lol
Glad to hear you are having a distraction at the moment. Those are always a good thing in my opinion :)

27 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 5, 2012 at 3:01 pm

Ahh yeah that’s a tough one. All the stores here have testers that you can test out on your hand to see, but I don’t know if you guys do that down there in the states? The colors aren’t super, super intense though, so you would probably be safe with most of them.

28 Katherine November 5, 2012 at 8:04 am

That’s a pretty clean purse!

29 HollieisFueledByLOLZ November 5, 2012 at 8:08 am

Totally understand about the wonky blog. I’m used to not even carrying a purse…but when I do carry one, I hoard so much stuff. It’s beyond ridiculous!

30 Karla November 5, 2012 at 8:51 am

Cant wait to read all about why you posts have been wonky :)

I eat breakfast whether I’m hungry or not because if I don’t it leads me to the mentality that I can save those calories to binge later… Not good!

I just carry a wristlet now so I don’t have room for stuff. But, my car…that’s another story. I’ve got everything in there!

31 Laura Agar Wilson (@keephealthstyle) November 5, 2012 at 9:52 am

I have so many purses as well its nuts! I still need to implement your carrying snacks thing soon, keep forgetting!

32 Liz (formerly VeggieGirl) November 5, 2012 at 10:32 am

Love your purse! Despite the fact that I have a HUGE Marc Jacobs tote, I don’t carry too much at a time. But my schoolbooks are super heavy, so they’re the weight of a bunch of stuff in one bag.

33 Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness November 5, 2012 at 10:54 am

I always have some sort of bar with me! I can never leave my house without food lol! I always have to have gum with me too!

34 Miss Polkadot November 5, 2012 at 11:10 am

What a coincidence! Our weekends/Saturday evenings seem to have pretty much been the same due to seeing a “certain person” and breakfast on Sunday happended late and without real appetite. Hope things will go on being great between you and the mysterious Starbucks guy!

As far as meals go I make sure to eat them even if I’m not all that hungry – though that rarely happens – because if not it’ll backfire later in the day. And then the ravenous hangry Miss comes out .. not nice. Not nice at all.

35 Amanda @ .running with spoons. November 5, 2012 at 4:18 pm

EeeEEeeE! Hope that things are going great between you and your mysterious guy too!

36 Jessica November 5, 2012 at 11:53 am

Always eat meals unless I’m ill and can’t face the thought of food but even then I try to force something down for energy!

We had our extra hour last week…so so dark in the evenings now though which I like and dislike at that same time! Love the smell of the dark winter evenings.

Don’t apologise for ‘people’. Have fun and I hope he’s being lovely! :-)

37 Ellie@Fit for the Soul November 5, 2012 at 1:33 pm

hehehe I think most of us have an idea what kind of people you’re hanging out with!~~~~eeeekkk. πŸ˜€

And that’s so great you’re neat and can’t function in a messy environment! Ummm I’m not quite like that, but i’m really trying to improve in those ways, and my bags are ALWAYS filled with pieces of paper and stuff. Bleh. AND! I tend to carry the same bag with me for like a year sometimes! It’s so weird. πŸ˜›

38 Lisa November 5, 2012 at 2:12 pm

I think our bags are basically twins. We carry basically all the same things ha ha. I always have lots of snacks packed up, usually in two baggies in case one spills. I’d cry if my purse got food and stuff in it. I’m a little over protective;) And yep, I’ve got my makeup, sunglasses, gloves (obviously), and gum. I’m addicted to gum. Obviously blogging at your own pace is good! You go live your life, that’s most important! I think we should chat more! I may e-mail you:) P.S. that EOS lip balm is my favourite!

39 Brittany @ Delights and Delectables November 5, 2012 at 3:45 pm

I love your purse! I always carry food with me, but I can’t stand to have wrappers or crap in there! I can’t wait to hear more about his mystery man!!

40 kris November 5, 2012 at 5:10 pm

i totally carry tons of stuff in my purse. also have my make up bag + wallet + food. food is definitely most important! hehe πŸ˜‰ i carry snacks in my bag too because i never know when i’ll be hungry. plus a snack bar maks a pretty darn good dessert after lunch sometimes.

hope you had lots of fun with this…’people’ (ehem, mr. starbucks) this weekend!! πŸ˜‰

42 debbie November 5, 2012 at 6:20 pm

ugh, I am so jealous of your neat bag keeping abilities.

43 Miranda @ Biting Life November 5, 2012 at 7:03 pm

Love that purse — it’s so cute! I definitely have a thing for purses too. I just got a brand new Coach bag last month and I’m obsessed with it! Your post reminded me of something funny that happened yesterday… I was at Walmart with my boyfriend and we were passing the small travel items section and I was like: “Ooh, perfect! I needed to pick up some deodorant.” My boyfriend looked at the one I picked out and said: “Why are you getting one that’s so small? You don’t use full-size deodorant?” And I said: “Ummmm, no. This one’s for my purse! I have full-size ones I use at home, but I need a tiny one so it fits in my purse.” And he just told me he was REALLY glad he wasn’t a girl. Hahaha I don’t think he’d be a very good girl either πŸ˜‰

44 Irina @ Chocolatea Time November 5, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Ooo I can’t wait for the details on this wonderful, secret time-consuming event (I suspect it has something to do with a certain gorgeous Starbucks male πŸ˜‰ )! I’m the same way with my purse – while I carry around a ton of random stuff in it, it’s actually quite neat and there isn’t any trash at the bottom. I always have a Larabar and/or an Enjoy Life bar (I love the Cocoa Loco flavor) in my purse as well…hangry Irina = BAD.

Have a great week, love! Hope you have many more busy days (dates? πŸ˜‰ ) with a certain someone!
