. thinking out loud #93 .

August 28, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 67 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Awwwr. Gush. Thank you guys so much for all your sweet comments on Spoons’ birthday post! I very much doubt that I’d be blogging if it wasn’t for the amazing connections that I’ve made with both readers and bloggers alike, so I really hope you know how much ya mean to me! Here’s to many more exciting years together.

2. Can we drink to that? Of course we can! But we’re gonna keep it G-rated since I know some people aren’t quite at the legal age threshold yet, and I don’t wanna leave anyone out. How does a rich and creamy smoothie sound? With chocolate… and coconut… and almonds. If that sounds good to you, then check out my Almond Joy Smoothie recipe over on Savory Style! I’m kind of obsessed…

Almond Joy Smoothie

3. Speaking of obsessions, I’m very much in love with my new shoes.

Nike Wildhorse GTX

I’ve been hunting for a pair of Nikes for months now, but I couldn’t find a colour/style that I loved. I pretty much gave up the search before randomly happening across this pair of Wildhorse GTXs when I was in Winners the other day looking for cute food photography props. They’re basically perfect for me — black and charcoal (my favourite colours to wear) with a lovely pop of colour. Exactly my style.

4. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I did actually manage to find some cute food photography props… specifically, new plates and bowls…

Muffins and Cute Plates

And while I’d love to share the recipe for the delicious muffins sitting on top of them, I’m gonna have to hold out on you guys for a few more weeks. Sorry!

5. I don’t usually pay a lot of attention to junk mail, but every now and then I’ll get one that really makes me laugh…

Wtf Human Hair

I’m pretty sure the only way to respond to that one is… “wtf?!“

6. In other “wtf” news, I walked into my closet the other day and saw, not one, but two fruit flies buzzing around… And no, I don’t use my pantry as a closet. I do store kitchen linens and random baking pans in my microwave, though 😉

Microwave Storage

7. I also do object against the false claims that there are 6.5 servings in this bag of granola…

Chocolate Granola

Either that or I completely lack all sense of decency portion control when it comes to these things. It’s probably the latter 😆

8. What I don’t lack is the ability to be easily amused. Tee hee, carrot balls!

Carrot Balls

9. And on that happy note, it’s time for me to say goodbye to your friendly faces for a few days. Remember how I mentioned that I’ll be taking a trip to Whistler? Today’s the day! Actually, I’m probably already en route as we speak, so hopefully we don’t run into any SNAFUs along the way. I’ll be checking in with you guys on Sunday for some Link Love, but other than that, I’ll talk to you again on Tuesday! 😀

I loveeee those Nikes. I wanted purple sneakers forever then randomly found my Nike Flyknits. They are the best! (Except my feet swell #runnerprobs so they get tight).

    Anxiously awaiting those muffins, btw!

LOVE the new shoes!!! And I totally feel ya on the granola. 1/2 cup is a serving … what?! Who only eats 1/2 cup in one sitting?? Have a wonderful trip!!

P.S. Maybe I’m just not seeing correctly, but I don’t see the link-up!

That microwave picture totally cracks me up! I have also heard of people doing that with their ovens. I use both way too frequently to be able to do that. Luckily I have lots of cabinet space AND a pantry!

Oh ma goodness, I’m dying to get that muffin recipe. They look divine! Also, happy belated birthday to Spoons!! xoxo 🙂
Excellent idea storing randoms in the microwave…note taken. And as for serving sizes: to heck with them. I eat what I want; I shan’t be limited! 😉

Ahh…Whistler…its near the top of my list of place I want to visit! I’m excited to hear all about it!

Serving size is a joke. I have yet to meet someone who thinks that serving sizes are even remotely close to what people really eat! Have you ever looked at the serving size on cooking spray? It’s measured in seconds and apparently one can has like 900 “servings” – lol!

I feel like the fruit flies have been in the weirdest places this year. There’s one corner of my living room when there’s ALWAYS one bothering me. I kill it and then his friend is there…and then the game continues. 🙁

I can see how the ‘raw virgin human hair from China’ email might sound a bit odd for anyone who’s not familiar with the hair industry or doesn’t use hair extensions. I don’t either mind you but a friend of mine is a hair stylist so she’s told me a bit about it. “Virgin” basically just means nothing’s been done to the hair. Anyway, like most, if not all, global industries it has a not so pleasant side, of poor people being exploited so that we in the West can have nice wigs and hair extensions with real human hair…. This is pretty informative if you want to know more: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2012/oct/28/hair-extension-global-trade-secrets

I hate fruit flies! Last week, I had a few bananas on the counter that were starting to turn brown, which inevitably attracted some fruit flies. Well, after I noticed the flies, I cut the bananas up and immediately put them into the freezer. Then the flies went away…thank goodness for that!

I wish I was more of a fan of carrots. I mean, they’re okay, but I’ve recently discovered that they’re just not my favorite. After we went through two unopened bags two weeks in a row, my husband and I decided to get off the carrot train ;). Have a great time in Whistler!

Have a fantastic trip! I think bags lie with a lot of portion sizes 😉 I do have to say granola and nuts are the ones that I think are crazy small and the bags are too tiny to even consider 6.5 servings in there! ha Love the new plates! I’ve never heard of that store, but to buy Nikes and food props in it, sounds like a perfect store!

Fruit flies are the scourge of the world, as far as I am concerned. Have an amazing time in Whistler! My family was going to go there one year to ski, but it ended up being too warm of a year. Le sigh. I would love to go now, though.

The ‘microwave as storage union’ makes me kind of skeevish. I’d be afraid to accidentially turn it on not thinking about the [metal?!] dishes in there. Then again, I’d be unlikely to ever turn my microwave in a closet because I use it too often for that.
Cereal-wise you need to come over here. German boxes don’t list servings. You’ll find the nutritional stats per 100 g/3.5 oz and then it’s up to you to go to town. 1/4 a box as a serving? Might as well be …
Happy whistling in Whistler 😉 .

I do think Nike makes a mean looking sneaker, most of their sneakers have some serious kickbutt color combinations.

Have a terrific trip! I am laughing at the stuff in the microwave. I feel like I use mine too much to keep stuff in there but I keep my baking pans in the oven if that counts for anything lol. I do believe Carrie Bradshaw kept shoes or random things in her oven because she never used it for cooking. And, we both posted about new sneakers today! Forgot to tell you I picked up a new pair the other day.

    CARROT BALLS.

Best thing ever. And be soooo careful with the microwave shindig….I once stored plastic containers in there and the queen of all Twats (niki) didn’t look and microwaved food in there and …. yep. Blew it up. Two microwaves wrecked by her!

Have a super trip, Amanda! That smoothie looks all kinds of wonderful- I’ve been obsessed with coconut chips dipped in almond butter lately but add chocolate to the mix? Helllo heaven in my mouth! Your sneakers are looking great! I am an Asics girl and while I can’t say enough good things about their comfort and support, they need to work on the appearance of their shoes…Nike could teach them a thing or 2!
