Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!
1. You guys are a nosy bunch! But I love it because so am I 😆 Thanks for all your feedback on my What I Ate Wednesday posts! Survey saysssss — keep em, so they will most definitely be kept. And if you bribe me with cookies (or, let’s face it, anything else sweet), I’ll even do my best to start posting them every week again.
2. Speaking of food… has anyone else ever noticed that you can be perfectly satisfied and content in terms of hunger levels until you take a small bite of something and you’re suddenly starving? This happened to me the other day. I got home a little after dinner and put off making a meal because I wasn’t feeling all that hungry. That is… until I decided to grab a “quick little something” because it was getting late and I figured I should eat. One bite, two bites, three bites… omg I need food NOW. I ended up having to resort to eating a pimped out bowl of cereal for dinner because I couldn’t imagine waiting for a proper meal to cook. Satisfied to starving in 2.2
3. Also, my apologies for taunting you with visions of salted caramel cookie dough smoothies. I’ll share the recipe tomorrow — I promise!
4. Oh, and just as a head’s up… you might wanna consider freezing some almond milk in preparation.
Actually, you might wanna consider freezing some almond milk even if you’re not planning on making this particular smoothie. Not only do almond milk cubes taste way better than ice cubes in smoothies because they thicken them up without watering them down, but freezing almond milk is a great way to avoid it spoiling if you’re trying to get through one of the big 2L cartons on your own!
5. Oh, oh! And while we’re talking about that smoothie, can we just take a moment and laugh at the fact that iPhoto apparently sees faces in it?
Call me unimaginative, but I just don’t see it… Still, further proof that it really is out-of-this-world delicious 😉
6. Also delicious? Dried papaya spears…
I know they’re basically just glorified candy, but at least there’s some real fruit under that layer of sugar… right? Right! There are chocolate people, and there are gummy candy people… and when it all comes down to it, I’m definitely a gummy candy person. Back in the day, I’d go through bags of Fuzzy Peaches and Sour Watermelons like it was my job.
7. And are you spying what I’m spying in the background of that photo? Yellow leaves!
The scary thing is that they were still pretty much all green last week… and I remember this because I got all excited when I saw a small handful of yellow ones and I was going to share it on last week’s ToL. At this rate, all the trees will be naked in about… oh… 2 weeks. This is why us Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October — it doesn’t look like fall by the time November rolls around (read: it’s basically winter).
8. Speaking of fall, a small update on the canned pumpkin shortage. I found some… sort of.
I’ll admit that boxed pumpkin is a first for me, but I can’t afford to be picky at this point. I’ll keep you updated 😆
9. And to end things on a lighthearted note… have you guys seen this clip from Jimmy Kimmel where he went around asking people who follow a gluten-free diet if they knew what gluten was? It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time because it just goes to show how quick people are to jump on diet bandwagons without even knowing the how or why. “Here in LA, [gluten] is comparable to Satanism.” 😆

Hahaha. That Jimmy Kimmel clip is epic.
Can we please take a moment to give a WTF to hunger signals again? Story of my life. Feel peckish, have a snack, hunger beast enters. And that’s my face in the smoothie. I tried to faceplant the screen.
Creepy that iPhoto sees someone in the picture…yikes! Correct me if I am wrong, but don’t Canadians also have boxed milk? I’ve never seen boxed pumpkin.
We do have boxed milk! But it’s not as common anymore. Boxed pumpkin is definitely new.
The sudden hunger … I know it SO well. It irks me to no end. These days I often need to eat breakfast before my commute when I’m not hungry yet because I can’t at work. Guess what? I’m hungrier than usual for the remainder of the day, too.
Seeing the first colourful leaves gets me excited, too. If only that stage lasted longer and they didn’t entirely fall to the ground soon afterwards.
Haha, a smoothie with a face. So scary, really.
I see myself carrying a whole suitcase of punpkin puree home from the US next year. My pumpkin recipes always need the effort to bake a whole pumpkin and then puree it. Reason why I eat it just like that – not that I would complain, we all know baked kabocha is everything!
Point 2 happened to me last night– wasnt hungry, but hadnt eaten so figured i’d just have a bite of something.. Bam. Ravenous. And actually it just so happens what i had a bite of was dried mango- agreed its essesntially candy, but its SO good. I’ll have to get some papaya 🙂 also… i dont see the face either! im really looking for it!
Smoothie for the win.
I’ve decided I want to celebrate Canadian and American thanksgiving..because..food. 🙂
Our trees have started peaking color too. Ready for fall!
Confession: I totally celebrate both. Canadian with my family, and American with most of the blog world 😉
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Pumpkin SHORTAGE?! Nooooooo! Oh girl, I feel your pain! We had the same thing happen about three years ago over here and I still haven’t shaken the fear that it will one day happen again…which could explain why I still have about 30 cans in my spare bedroom closet (because you know, that’s where everyone keeps their extra canned goods, right?) 😉
That ice cube tray is the cutest thing ever! Question: When you freeze almond milk (or especially coconut milk) does it ever get like soft and flaky on the edges after it freezes? I’ve noticed that a few times and thought it was a little weird.
Oh how I’ve missed you, woman! In person even more…but I really REALLY need to get caught up with my favorite Spoon. It’s been TOO long! xoxox
I’VE MISSED YOUR FACE! You know what would remedy that? A text! God. We spend one amazing weekend together and you never call again 😛 And yeah I’ve noticed that with the almond milk… sometimes it gets a little powdery (??) on top? Bizarre.
LOVE the frozen almond milk idea!
lol, I saw that boxed pumpkin at the grocery store the other day and thought, hmm that’s interesting but since they still had some of the organic canned I snatched that up! Oh and I can go from feeling just fine to starving within minutes…you can ask Jim it’s not too fun to be around me when I hit starving if I don’t have something good to stick in my mouth!
That hunger thing happens to me too. I may think I am not super hungry, much on a carrot and suddenly I must have a meal.
I guess my question is, can you read the cinnamon like you would read tea leaves? Or is it more like cloud-gazing/ink blot tests, where the answer tells you about the person’s inner demons…. I’m marathon training, so we won’t even get into my hunger cues. I will say that I typically trust just about anything from Pacific, so I say go for it on the pumpkin front.
😆 I was actually thinking tea leaves when I first saw that. Swirl it up and see what the future holds.
Ohh I’m with you about hunger levels…I can be fine for ages but then as soon as I put something in my mouth, it’s like an attack of the hunger beast!! I remember seeing that clip a while back and found it absolutely hilarious! No joke, I was having lunch with someone a few weeks ago and she was telling me she was severely gluten-intolerant. Bear in mind, she was dipping her sushi in soy sauce like it was no big deal…hmmmm!
Possibly why you’re hungry after taking that one bite is because of ghrelin? It’s your hunger hormone that can be raised even with the smell of something good. 🙂 And I an NOT a fan of papaya!
Yellow leaves already! Holy smokes! Where is summer! Facebook cracks me up..clearly food is just like our best friend and fb gets it!
That clip made me laugh! Good old faddy diets!
I loled at that smoothie having a face. I also loled at the gluten free video. So many good quotes in there. I was surprised not one of the people knew but I do applaud their honesty.
I find occasionally that I’ll get hungry just thinking about a food. I wasn’t hungry then I’ll think about it and all of a sudden my hunger multiplies.
That’s exactly why I end up snacking about 90% of the time that I’m reading blogs. Either that or I’ll try to coordinate reading with meal times so I don’t suddenly find myself starving…
Yesss definitely taking one bite of something makes me more hungry…. I don’t know why! Can’t wait for the recipe… And are those unicorn ice cube trays???? Awesomeness
I wish! They’re actually boring old pears 🙁
I’m thinking you couldn’t have been too angry about the satisfied to full in 2.2 because it ended in cereal…always a good choice btw
Also, our leaves are still green here in Waterloo and we actually got up to 18 here yesterday so I’m thinking it’s just Edmonton haha
I can’t wait to go to my acupuncture doctor again today. He virtually removed all my calf pain last weekend. I still cannot believe what happened to me that day. It was like my entire body was reset. By the way, freezing almond milk is genius!
That gluten video is awesome and demonstrates everything that makes me crazy about fad diets…and especially people who talk about how awesome they are when they have no idea why! It’s perfect, and I’m sharing it 🙂
I haven’t tried freezing almond milk but I LOVE freezing leftover coffee and make coffee cubes for my iced coffee later. YUM!
All of the non-pine trees around my place are still green, but in the city, it’s like an autumn paradise. So pretty.
Almond milk ice cubes – brilliant! I’m going to try this soon. Why have I never thought of it? This is why you’re a fancy food blogger and I’m not. 😉
Ha, that video was hilarious. It’s so true people just do what they think is the “new thing” without any reason too! Never thought to freeze almond milk but that’s genius! I’ll get on that. Leaves here are still green. I’m sure this weekend they will start to change. Oh and about not being hungry but then starving? Story of my life! I’ll sometimes reach for food after dinner.. you know a sweet or something, and then I’m ridiculously hungry! It’s crazy.
I’ve heard about the almond milk ice cubes thang for a while, but for whatever reason (aka #lazy, #forgetful) I haven’t tried it. That will change soon.
Also, #2 basically happens to me on a daily basis.
i recently bought boxed beets… true story. Great idea about freezing almond milk!
I guess I need to start freezing my almond milk..especially if I get to do it in those little cute pear shapes… 😉
Totall a gummy/candy person too! That yummy sourness is heaven! I swear I can eat more in one sitting than a kid! Ha!
Ditto! But we’re also 3 times their size, so we clearly need more to achieve the same kind of satisfaction 😉
I’m anxiously awaiting the smoothie recipe. Never thought to freeze almond milk, but that’s a great idea!
I can’t wait for the leaves to start changing down here. Fall is the absolute best season ever!!
Ok salted caramel anything…. GIVE ME. Can’t wait for that!!
Amen to that feeling of taking a bite and having it transform into a hunger monster. It’s really ridiculous/embarrassing when other people are around and ask you, “Didn’t you just say you weren’t hungry…?” Yes. And now I am.
Eeeeep cannot wait for the smoothie recipe, even though I won’t be able to make it (along with every other recipe in the blog world) for at least another 2 months.
Boxed pumpkin?! Hmm is that more liquidy than canned?
I hope not! I haven’t opened it yet, but it doesn’t slosh around when I shake it, so hopefully it’ll be the same as canned!
Haha – that’s too funny about the faces in your shake – I guess i-photo works under the same premise as we do when we are looking at the clouds and thinking we are seeing something and some one else just doesn’t?
Dried papaya – Girl you have the best finds! Thanks for the tip on frozen almond milk!
I must confess, I didn’t know much about gluten and what not till about a year ago when my daughter’s doc advised me to take her off gluten due to some stomach issues – fortunately, she can tolerate it in very small amounts- once in a blue moon.
Happy TOL Thursday!
Ahh I’m so with you on the random satisfied to starving moments. I go for a piece of chocolate or something and then I want all the food!
And I love how iPhoto finds faces in random things and then doesn’t even always recognize an actual face as a face. Technology is so cool and impressive, but hey, nobody’s perfect.
SAME! It almost ALWAYS starts with an innocent chunk of chocolate….
Ahhh I love your ice cube dish! 😀
I love freezing coconut milk as well – try it sometime for a little tropical kick in your smoothies 😉 Also, frozen pumpkin is a good smoothie thickener when you’re out of xanthan gum!
Oh man, diet bangwagons…the shame lol! I wish I could watch that Jimmy Kimmel vid but I’m at work and it’s blocked, dangit!
Have a great day!
xo Meg
It blows my mind how some people decide to eat “gluten free” just because they think it’ll help them be healthier or lose weight. That’s not a reason to become gluten free. That video is hilarious though! And pumpkin puree in a box….I hope it’s not similar to the lower quality of boxed wine. I’m so jealous of the leaves changing. I’m so ready for fall, but it’s still hot here!
Okay what are those ice cubes shaped like? Bunnies? I’m flipping my phone in different directions trying to figure it out LOL.
Cannot wait for that smoothie recipe!! Also I want that glass in the photo!
😆 They’re actually pears! And can you believe I found that glass in a hardware store? I swear… I find some of my best props in the weirdest places…
Another “Great” post! <3
I love your posts, but have not been sharing my love for them enough, that changes today. Salted caramel cookie dough smoothie sounds freaking amazing, can’t wait for the post! Also I’m a little creeped out by Iphoto thinking it was a face… Happy Thursday!
A canned pumpkin shortage?! How was I not aware of this? Yipes! And as much as I love the change in the fall leaves, it scares me that winter is almost here, LOL.
I had no idea they even made boxed pumpkin!! That’s a little odd to me, but hey desperate times call for desperate measures haha. And I’m jealous of your fall leaves!!!! Just when I think the temp is starting to feel like fall it warms back up { here in California }. And hell yes to that recipe tomorrow, I can’t wait :D!!
Those fall leaves are BEAUTIFUL…And yes that has happened to me when I start eating something and then all of a sudden I am ravenous…Why the heck does that happen anyway? Our bodies are so kookie sometimes!
Haha your ice cube tray.. killin’ me! Lol. Love that so much.
I bought three huge cans of pumpkin at costco the other day. It was an impulse buy because it felt so much like fall outside. Anddddd when I walked outside the costco doors, an overwhelming smell of spicy sweet warm apples overwhelmed me. I’m not sure where the hell it was coming from but I was euphoric in that moment.
Can you believe the main reason I bought it was because it was literally the.only.one I could find? Like… they didn’t have normal boring ice cube trays, but they had those 😯
I found the same thing the other day with the pumpkin – it was SOLD OUT in a couple DIFFERENT stores!! Crazy! Great picture of the yellow leaves 🙂
I love when the leaves start to change but I hate how quickly they begin to fall and disappear. You have a very tiny window where everything is pretty in warm colors. The WORST is when a storm comes through and blows them all down immediately… It makes me angrier than it probably should haha!
And I LOVE THOSE PAPAYA SPEARS!!! laskdklfajsdf They are quite possibly one of my favorite snacks. Plus, they don’t have sulfur in them but still have light sugar which is amazinnnng. My stomach does not like sulfur.
For someone that doesn’t have an ice maker, freezing coconut milk is genius! Now I just need an ice cube tray as cool as yours. Mine suddenly seems so ordinary. lol
Way too much deliciousness of this blog today to comment on all of it, but the almond milk ice cubes are seriously an awesome idea, and I am really excited for that smoothie recipe, like really, really, excited!
And I know exactly the phenomenon you’re talking about when you eat a bit of something and then NEED to eat the whole thing right now. Happens to me all the time 🙂
I love Jimmy’s videos. And that smoothie – I cannot wait to see the recipe for it! My go to lately has been peaches n’ cream and its so good but I need to switch it up a bit!
I love that Jimmy Kimmel video! Hilarious. 🙂
I will now be in search of dried papaya spears. It kind of reminds me of a Twizzler.. my favorite candy! 😉
That video was so great! And I seriously need to get myself some of those papaya spears!
I go to extremes on both the chocolate and the gummy candy side of the spectrum…I’ll go through phases where I can’t get enough of one or the other. It’s a problem 😛 And that ice cube tray is too cute!
HAHA funny video!! 😀 what jerks…
I actually know the feeling when you’re not hungry, take a bite and get SUPER hungry immediately! It’s weird. I don’t know what it is. I hate that! Best not to eat when you’re not hungry I guess.
I’m always so enamored with cute ice cube trays (like #4), but I never buy any. I think I should change that 😉 I strongly dislike pumpkin, so I wasn’t aware of the shortage, but I’m glad it won’t impact everyone’s insane desire for PSL all winter! Hope you find some, no matter what packaging they come in! xoxo, ganeeban
Actually, the only reason I bought that one was because I couldn’t find any normal ones. Like… really?! They have crazy shapes but not the boring kind? Kind of boggled my mind…
What GORGEOUS yellow leaves!!! We never have that here (I’m in Florida) – what’s this “fall” that you speak of? 😉
It’s the two weeks of gorgeousness before winter hits for 6 months 😉
I wonderrrrred why pumpkin was almost $4 at Whole Foods and there were only a few cans left… now I know!
boxed pumpkin??? I’m intrigued!!
I’m with Jimmie Kimmel. I’m pro pizza, and that clip was great.
Stop the pumpkin madness ; ) and instead let’s focus on that ridiculously cute ice cube tray you have. Um, totally envious of that. The tree is pretty, beautiful actually, and our leaves will start to change (like really change) the end of October, early November and the Hubby and I have plans to go hiking again during that time since it’ll be breath taking.
EVERY time I think I’m not hungry and just have a snack or something silly for dinner, I immediately regret it, ha. Conversely, when I’m not super hungry and then go to eat a meal… I typically have no problem finishing it. ; ) Darn hunger, playing tricks on us!
Pumpkin shortage?? What?? Hy heart is heavy, so thanks for ending on a funny note with with Kimmel clip. Wow, it is amazing what people will do to fit in!
Bahahahaha I love that video, particularly the woman. “It’s in rice…” No it’s not, sweetie. I’m not GF, but even I know there isn’t any gluten in rice.
I think she was just trying to suggest that people stop eating carbs in general 😉
The video is pretty funny.. I liked the coughing part lol… Im glad you are continuing on with the WIAW posts..Its actually giving me some ideas like the snack plate!!!! Im also going to be trying your recipes soon too!!! Thanks for posting and have a great day!!
I agree, the whole gluten thing is kinda funny… but kinda sad that they don’t really know.
I LOVE your little pear molds – adorable!! 🙂
I’m intrigued by the boxed pumpkin! I’ve never seen that before. And I love that gluten video – that’s hilarious. I was telling Chef-friend about that the other day because he gets a LOT of people asking for gluten-free options, and you can never tell if someone is legitimately sensitive to it or jumping on the bandwagon as a way to lose weight.
It feels a little more fall-ish around here, but the leaves are still green…I give it another week or two and it’ll start to turn.
I want some of those papaya spears!! They look so good. Pumpkin must be consumed no matter which way you get it!!
Ooh dried papaya is so good!! I like dried mango too. Have you ever had chili dried mango? It’s covered in a chili powder type something. It’s strangely delicious.
I haven’t! But I’m the biggest wuss when it comes to any kind of spicy food, so it might kill my tastebuds 😆
I can’t believe you’re almost at 100 Thinking Out Loud posts! Crazy. It feels like just the other day you were asking us if we’d like to have it as a link up. How time FLIES! 😉
Patiently waiting for the smoothie recipe. Holy freaking heck. Any salted dessert-like food/drink is a winner in my books!
I knowwww… And what’s even crazier is that the linkup is only on #40 or something. Seriously can’t believe it’s been that long.
Haha that’s so funny that it saw a face in your smoothie. I swear I see faces in everything. The other day I was taking a shower and I saw a face in one of the tiles haha.
I love dried papaya too! Basically I just love any dried fruit.
All your fall inspired thoughts make me so excited to see some weather change in my part of the world!
