. thinking out loud #96 .

September 18, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 88 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. You guys are a nosy bunch! But I love it because so am I 😆 Thanks for all your feedback on my What I Ate Wednesday posts! Survey saysssss — keep em, so they will most definitely be kept. And if you bribe me with cookies (or, let’s face it, anything else sweet), I’ll even do my best to start posting them every week again.

WIAW917

2. Speaking of food… has anyone else ever noticed that you can be perfectly satisfied and content in terms of hunger levels until you take a small bite of something and you’re suddenly starving? This happened to me the other day. I got home a little after dinner and put off making a meal because I wasn’t feeling all that hungry. That is… until I decided to grab a “quick little something” because it was getting late and I figured I should eat. One bite, two bites, three bites… omg I need food NOW. I ended up having to resort to eating a pimped out bowl of cereal for dinner because I couldn’t imagine waiting for a proper meal to cook. Satisfied to starving in 2.2

3. Also, my apologies for taunting you with visions of salted caramel cookie dough smoothies. I’ll share the recipe tomorrow — I promise!

Cookie Smoothie

4. Oh, and just as a head’s up… you might wanna consider freezing some almond milk in preparation.

Frozen Almond Milk

Actually, you might wanna consider freezing some almond milk even if you’re not planning on making this particular smoothie. Not only do almond milk cubes taste way better than ice cubes in smoothies because they thicken them up without watering them down, but freezing almond milk is a great way to avoid it spoiling if you’re trying to get through one of the big 2L cartons on your own!

5. Oh, oh! And while we’re talking about that smoothie, can we just take a moment and laugh at the fact that iPhoto apparently sees faces in it?

Smoothie Face

Call me unimaginative, but I just don’t see it… Still, further proof that it really is out-of-this-world delicious 😉

6. Also delicious? Dried papaya spears…

Dried Papaya Spear

I know they’re basically just glorified candy, but at least there’s some real fruit under that layer of sugar… right? Right! There are chocolate people, and there are gummy candy people… and when it all comes down to it, I’m definitely a gummy candy person. Back in the day, I’d go through bags of Fuzzy Peaches and Sour Watermelons like it was my job.

7. And are you spying what I’m spying in the background of that photo? Yellow leaves!

Yellow Leaves

The scary thing is that they were still pretty much all green last week… and I remember this because I got all excited when I saw a small handful of yellow ones and I was going to share it on last week’s ToL. At this rate, all the trees will be naked in about… oh… 2 weeks. This is why us Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October — it doesn’t look like fall by the time November rolls around (read: it’s basically winter).

8. Speaking of fall, a small update on the canned pumpkin shortage. I found some… sort of.

Boxed Pumpkin

I’ll admit that boxed pumpkin is a first for me, but I can’t afford to be picky at this point. I’ll keep you updated 😆

9. And to end things on a lighthearted note… have you guys seen this clip from Jimmy Kimmel where he went around asking people who follow a gluten-free diet if they knew what gluten was? It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time because it just goes to show how quick people are to jump on diet bandwagons without even knowing the how or why. “Here in LA, [gluten] is comparable to Satanism.” 😆

Hahaha. That Jimmy Kimmel clip is epic.

Can we please take a moment to give a WTF to hunger signals again? Story of my life. Feel peckish, have a snack, hunger beast enters. And that’s my face in the smoothie. I tried to faceplant the screen.

The sudden hunger … I know it SO well. It irks me to no end. These days I often need to eat breakfast before my commute when I’m not hungry yet because I can’t at work. Guess what? I’m hungrier than usual for the remainder of the day, too.
Seeing the first colourful leaves gets me excited, too. If only that stage lasted longer and they didn’t entirely fall to the ground soon afterwards.

Haha, a smoothie with a face. So scary, really.

I see myself carrying a whole suitcase of punpkin puree home from the US next year. My pumpkin recipes always need the effort to bake a whole pumpkin and then puree it. Reason why I eat it just like that – not that I would complain, we all know baked kabocha is everything!

Pumpkin SHORTAGE?! Nooooooo! Oh girl, I feel your pain! We had the same thing happen about three years ago over here and I still haven’t shaken the fear that it will one day happen again…which could explain why I still have about 30 cans in my spare bedroom closet (because you know, that’s where everyone keeps their extra canned goods, right?) 😉

That ice cube tray is the cutest thing ever! Question: When you freeze almond milk (or especially coconut milk) does it ever get like soft and flaky on the edges after it freezes? I’ve noticed that a few times and thought it was a little weird.

Oh how I’ve missed you, woman! In person even more…but I really REALLY need to get caught up with my favorite Spoon. It’s been TOO long! xoxox

Oh and I can go from feeling just fine to starving within minutes…you can ask Jim it’s not too fun to be around me when I hit starving if I don’t have something good to stick in my mouth!

I guess my question is, can you read the cinnamon like you would read tea leaves? Or is it more like cloud-gazing/ink blot tests, where the answer tells you about the person’s inner demons…. I’m marathon training, so we won’t even get into my hunger cues. I will say that I typically trust just about anything from Pacific, so I say go for it on the pumpkin front.

I remember seeing that clip a while back and found it absolutely hilarious! No joke, I was having lunch with someone a few weeks ago and she was telling me she was severely gluten-intolerant. I’m with Jimmie Kimmel. I’m pro pizza, and that clip was great.

Stop the pumpkin madness ; ) and instead let’s focus on that ridiculously cute ice cube tray you have. Um, totally envious of that. The tree is pretty, beautiful actually, and our leaves will start to change (like really change) the end of October, early November and the Hubby and I have plans to go hiking again during that time since it’ll be breath taking.

EVERY time I think I’m not hungry and just have a snack or something silly for dinner, I immediately regret it, ha. Conversely, when I’m not super hungry and then go to eat a meal… I typically have no problem finishing it. ; ) Darn hunger, playing tricks on us!

Bahahahaha I love that video, particularly the woman. “It’s in rice…” No it’s not, sweetie. I’m not GF, but even I know there isn’t any gluten in rice.

I think she was just trying to suggest that people stop eating carbs in general 😉

I agree, the whole gluten thing is kinda funny… but kinda sad that they don’t really know.
I LOVE your little pear molds – adorable!! 🙂

I’m intrigued by the boxed pumpkin! I’ve never seen that before. And I love that gluten video – that’s hilarious. I was telling Chef-friend about that the other day because he gets a LOT of people asking for gluten-free options, and you can never tell if someone is legitimately sensitive to it or jumping on the bandwagon as a way to lose weight.

It feels a little more fall-ish around here, but the leaves are still green…I give it another week or two and it’ll start to turn.

Ooh dried papaya is so good!! I like dried mango too. Have you ever had chili dried mango? It’s covered in a chili powder type something. It’s strangely delicious.

I haven’t! But I’m the biggest wuss when it comes to any kind of spicy food, so it might kill my tastebuds 😆

I can’t believe you’re almost at 100 Thinking Out Loud posts! Crazy. It feels like just the other day you were asking us if we’d like to have it as a link up. How time FLIES! 😉

Patiently waiting for the smoothie recipe. Holy freaking heck. Any salted dessert-like food/drink is a winner in my books!

I knowwww… And what’s even crazier is that the linkup is only on #40 or something. Seriously can’t believe it’s been that long.

Haha that’s so funny that it saw a face in your smoothie. I swear I see faces in everything. The other day I was taking a shower and I saw a face in one of the tiles haha.

I love dried papaya too! Basically I just love any dried fruit.
