team cake or team frosting? (ToL #232)

April 27, 2017 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 36 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. It’s baaaaaaaack! Remember how I said that my motivation for blogging was kind of all over the place for the past few months and I couldn’t kick that weird writer’s block/creative funk I was in? Well, I don’t want to jinx myself, but I think things are finally back to normal. And HECK YES does it feel good to be back! Back in the kitchen, back in the blog world, back to looking forward to sitting down at the computer and creating recipes. Thank you guys for sticking with me through whatever the heck that spell was. Love you. Owe you.

2. And speaking of recipes, uhm… you guys rocked my socks off with all the love you showed my Healthy Chocolate Ice Cream Smoothie. I love that you loved it because I just want to throw avocados in all the smoothies, so I can definitely see more of them making an appearance in the future (that TEXTURE, though). One more pour shot because #obsessed…

Healthy Chocolate Ice Cream Smoothie3

3. Also, remember how I mentioned my obsession with my new 100mm lens? I find myself picking up my camera more often to just take random shots of things up close. Like… hello chocolate chunks that look… semi metallic?

Chocolate Chunks

4. How do we feel about carrot cake? I’ve always been a chocolate cake kind of girl, but I’ve been working on some carrot cake inspired breakfast recipes since it seems like a good flavour for spring, and I’ve gotta say… I’m a big fan of the sweetness and spice. The main question now is… what do you guys want to see first (read: this weekend) – pancakes or a breakfast bake?

5. One thing I will say about carrot cake, though, is that it’s the one time I’ll take frosting over cake. Not because carrot cake is bad, but because the cream cheese frosting is just that good. Normally I’m all about a moist, rich, doughy, [chocolate] cake, but a sweetened cream cheese frosting makes me weak in the knees. Heck, I could probably skip the cake at that point and just eat frosting from a bowl with a spoon. What about you? Team #cake or team #frosting?

6. Random thought. My mouth is on fire right now. I’ve really been loving hearty soups for lunch (because, you know, it’s the middle of winter here), and I decided to start adding a pinch of cayenne to them to spice things up a little bit. Only today’s pinch turned into a bit of a punch, and now… everything burns. But – and this might just be a placebo effect or me being crazy – I feel like it’s doing good things for my digestion. That’s legit a thing, though, isn’t it? Cayenne pepper and digestion? Doesn’t it stimulate the digestive tract or something? I need to Google magic this.

7. Why are frozen mangos so amazing? Not only do they have this soft and creamy sorbet-ish texture, but they also calm the inferno that has become my mouth. The only problem is that I end up freezing afterwards, seeing as it’s all of -2C (28F) right now and I’m sitting here eating frozen food like it’s the middle of summer. At this rate, I figure we’ll start seeing warmer days by the end of July…

Frozen Mangoes

8. Alright friendly faces, that’s it for me today. Thanks for hanging with me for a bit, and I’ll see you in a couple of days with more food 🙂

I’m Team Frosting all the way. In fact, I made a carrot cake for Easter and had tons of leftover cream cheese frosting, which I ate over the course of the week, with a spoon.

Yes spicy foods are great for your digestion. You should try some red pepper flakes too. Go easy to start though.

Probably too late for this, but I’d go breakfast bake all the way…your breakfast bakes are my fav!! 😍 Though I am entirely unsure of a non-chocolate one?? And I tend not to like carrot cake, though I’m sure you could make anything taste amazing! 💜😋

Also #TeamFrosting ALL THE WAY!! In fact, my sister just got a cake for her birthday and I just had everyone’s extra frosting and skipped out on the cake most of the times we had it. 😜

I’d love to see a breakfast bake! And I’m usually team cake unless it’s homemade cream cheese frosting, then its team frosting all the way!!

Breakfast Bake! and I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m team cake and carrot happens to be my favorite. I actually eat around the frosting to get to the cake.

#teamcake unless, like you, it’s cream cheese frosting because then I’ll literally throw the cake out the window! haha Also, frozen mango is delicious. I tried a champagne mango for the first time yesterday and it’s so good! Just a tad sweeter than a regular mango but still so soft and yummy.

I’m going to say breakfast bake? But I honestly am not married to it, as I’m excited for both. I’m definitely #teamfrosting. It has to be a REALLY good cake for me to enjoy it by itself. The cake is mainly a means to get the frosting. Also, I’m so with you on the weather in July…although next Wednesday is supposed to be 69, so I’m super pumped!

I used to hate the thought of carrot cake, I mean carrots don’t belong in cake right? But it’s actually delicious! Provided there are no nuts in it, that’s not for me. Basically I like carrot cake as a vessel for cream cheese frosting.

I usually scrape the frosting off… unless it’s carrot cake with cream cheese frosting then i’m all over that too.
I loved that metallic chocolate shot. Your pictures are always so intriguing – you definitely make food art.
I am researching cameras – I want to buy something that will take great still pics but also be effective for videos since I have a YouTube channel. Any advice you can share would be welcome, and yes I’m still deciding whether I should be Team Canon or Team Nikon. Help!

Can I just be team ice cream? Cake is meh, unless we are talking angel food cake, that is an entirely different story! 😉

Lol, I hear you about the cayenne pepper ordeal. A little while ago, I was making a dish that needed a jalapeño. Instead of adding the jalapeño, I decided to use some pickled peppers my father in law gave me (thinking they were either cayenne peppers or jalapeños.) It was only after I totally set my mouth on fire, that I learned they were habanero peppers- not jalapeños. Holy burn. 😳

Ok that lens is incredible! I LOVE the definition it gives chocolate. And I would have to say when it comes to homemade cake, I love the frosting. I used to hate the frosting that cake had (because of the super thick icing from storebought cakes), but then I had more homemade frosting and I was sold.

Your pictures of food are just so perfect Amanda; I love them.

If it’s carrot cake… I am team wherever you want to put me!!! And that also means I don’t care if its pancake or breakfast bake or whatever else, throw all the carrot cake recipes at me! Though I must admit, it is probably the cream cheese icing that really does it for me.

YAYAYA!!! SO Glad you got your blogging mojo back!!!
And yaya for all the chocolate and avocado combos you come up with – I cannot wait to see what you bake up with ’em – I’ve managed to make some avocado cupcakes and avocado muffins so far… but still working on a loaf! And you know what has helped me when I ate too much cayenne – milk and cream cheese frosting 😉 And by saying that I admitted to having random cream cheese frosting hanging out in my fridge so go team frosting! Yeah!
    Happy Thursday Amanda!

I am WITH you on the cake to frosting ration with carrot cake! I love me some cream cheese icing (it’s also good with ice cream…cold and spice together). Actually, you could do a breakfast combo: carrot cake breakfast bake and banana cinnamon ice cream and that would be perfect! Now I’m hungry…

I think we all go through those periods of lack of motivation or even wanting to blog so I completely understand. Right now, I can’t say I really have a desire to run…which ok fine…but I don’t have a desire to talk about running 24-7 either LOL.

Team frosting, all the way! I usually eat the frosting first, or skip the cake and just eat the frosting. But, I’m a vanilla cake girl. I love chocolate, don’t get me wrong. But, there’s nothing like a cake or frosting that’s been made with pure vanilla bean. Heaven!

frosting! It’s always about the frosting! chocolate frosting that is. I don’t like carrot cake. I mean, I’ve had a few bite and it’ “fine” but if I am going to eat cake, it has to be chocolate. 🙂
