. cookies, PJ’s, and parties .

Hey guys! Hope you’re enjoying your Saturday! 😀

I have somewhat of a love-hate relationship when it comes to weekends. I love them because they give me a chance to catch up on some rest (much needed after the previous night’s sleeplessness) and finally get caught up on all of the things that I’ve been putting off for the whole week; but I also hate them because if I don’t have a reason to get my butt out the door bright and early, chances are that I’ll spend the majority of the day puttering around the house in my PJ’s, which is exactly what ended up happening today.

I woke up this morning with a loose plan to get a few things done, but I somehow ended up sitting down to breakfast…

Good thing I don’t have to worry about my breakfast going cold. Today we have: plain Greek yogurt and a banana buried under Kashi Honey Sunshine, Puffins, Enjoy Life trail mix, blueberries, and roasted almond butter.

… and not getting up again for about two hours. Honestly, I have no idea where the time went, since I didn’t really seem to get anything substantial accomplished, but there you go. A little bit of blogging here, a little bit of gaming there, and before I knew it, my motivation to be productive was pretty much gone. Dang.

Don’t get me wrong – I love leisurely mornings – but when it’s 3 PM and I’m still in my PJ’s? Yeaaaaahhhh, I start feeling like a bum. That’s not to say I didn’t get anything done though! I did manage to find the motivation to bake…

But really, who wouldn’t? We’re talking cookies here, and I would do crazy things for cookies (please don’t ask me to do crazy things for cookies). A friend of mine is celebrating her birthday tonight, and I figured that I’d be nice and bring over some cookies for everyone to enjoy…

Okay, you caught me; I really just wanted to make sure there’d be something there that I could enjoy because pesky allergies usually get in the way of me enjoying dessert when I’m out; and watching others having all the fun is… well… no fun at all. And before you go thinking that I’m a horrible, selfish person, I’ll have you know that I really do love making things for people and seeing them enjoy it… I just like to be able to enjoy it too 😉 Picking out a recipe, however, was something that I did not enjoy. I decided early on that I wanted to use one of my favorite cookie books…

… but I ran into trouble pretty much as soon as I opened it up…

I mean, how the heck do you choose between Banana-Walnut Chocolate Chunk Cookies and Magic Blondies? It was rough, I tell ya. In the end, I figured that you can never go wrong with a classic chocolate chip oatmeal cookie, so that’s the route I went with. Definitely a good choice….

Whaaaat? I had to make sure they were safe for human consumption! And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to eat more cookies wish my friend a happy birthday 😀 See you guys tomorrow!

. – . – . – .

Do you have a harder time being productive if you don’t get an early start?
Do you bring your own dish/dessert to parties?
What’s your favorite kind of cookie?

I definitely have harder time being productive if I don’t get an early start. Even on the days when I don’t leave the house, I still make it a point to get dressed and not spend the day in my jammies.

I don’t go out to parties very much, I’m pretty introverted. But I do love to cook and give away goodies to other people.

Favorite cookies? Sugar- Big. Fat. Thick. Cakey. Sugar cookies. With icing. Lots of icing.

sometimes we all need those days to just hang around, get nothing done. I was allowed to try that seeds and fruit mix from enjoy life, man I wish I had more. it was so good. hope your friend likes the cookie (oh and you too, ha!)

Still jealous that you got to hook up with Enjoy Life. They’re so great for people with allergies…

I am awful at getting things done if I don’t just “GO.” Like today for example..I had at least 4 things on my list of “to do” and only accomplished ONE!! ONE!! I went running..that was it. Which if I had to choose, I would have rather done that over any of the other things..but still!!

These cookies look SO good. I always bring something to parties whether it’s food or dessert. I used to only worry about bringing some kind of vegetarian fare..but now that I am a vegan, well it gets a bit more difficult. I’m not complaining though, I always find something to eat!

I hope you have a blast at your party!! Knowing you had something to do later in the evening makes staying in your PJ’s much more acceptable!! Embrace those lazy days!! :)

I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one having these kinds of days – it made me feel so bad! Whenever I allow myself to sleep in or read in bed for too long after waking up, the whole day ends up being spent in semi-productive fashion. It’s a good thing if I have to get up at a certain time for work at weekends – hence why I should probably better go to bed now 😀 – because it kind of schedules my day. I don’t do well with non-scheduled days. I somehow need heteronomous activities so I’m feeling obliged to someone – does that make sense?

Yes, I do sometimes bring my own dish to parties because I’m vegetarian and don’t want to cause the host any worries or additional work. Also, I usually bring (vegan) cookies/cake for everyone to enjoy.

I prefer to have my days pretty scheduled as well, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a completely relaxed day every now and then, as long as you don’t beat yourself up for it – which you shouldn’t because being rested and relaxed helps us be more productive later 😉

7 HollieisFueledByLOLZ October 20, 2012 at 6:14 pm

I’m the same way. If I wake up later even by an hour or two, I def even feel the difference. I think you had a very productive day-especially with our plotting to heist the cat LOL.

The time I have around breakfast is so enjoyable that I never know what happens to it. One minute I’m just sitting down the next time I look at the clock i am started to see how much time has passed. So I can totally relate to your long morning time! Your Saturday sounds like the perfect kind of Saturday. These cookies look like they turned out perfectly!

Cookies are the best! Especially homemade! My faves are gingerbread/snap and my grandmas homemade chocolate chip with walnuts! YUM..

Hmm, my friends never bring me delicious choc chip oatmeal( the best kind!) Cookies… I need new friends.

I hope your stomach woes from yesterday have cleared up – Iv been having issues with my tum too. I noticed that my problems started up when I re-introduced apples to my daily diet, I know you done the same recently. Those tasty pink lady’s had better not be the culprit! Apples are wierd ones, how they also make me hungrier after eating them & stuff:/.

Have a good time at the Birthday( & save me a cookie), :).

14 Amanda @ .running with spoons. October 21, 2012 at 7:54 am

*hands you a cookie* 😀

I’m actually kind of worried that apples really might be the culprit – I know another girl said she had problems with apples as well, and that her stomach improved a lot when she cut them out. So, as much as I hate it, I think I’m going to be saying goodbye to apples for a little bit and seeing if anything changes, because as much as I love them, I love being stomach-woe free a little bit more…

15 Jessie October 20, 2012 at 9:51 pm

girl, it’s totally acceptable to lay around in your pjs all day. I’m thinking that’s exactly how my Sunday will be :).. heck I’m not gonna lie, it was exactly how my Saturday was too!! :)

Enjoy those delicious cookies girl.

I wish the cookies I made could turn out as amazing as yours! I think it’s hard because I always veganize recipes or swap out ingredients and they just turn out too cake like. So when I go for cookies, I buy the giant vegan chocolate chip or everything cookies from Whole Foods.

I was super productive today, mostly with shopping trips and errands, so I have a feeling tomorrow will be more lazy. I don’t mind those lazy days as much, as long as I don’t have a lot I should have been doing!

I had the same issue with cookies when I was swapping out ingredients, and while they were still -okay-, there’s really nothing like the classic butter and sugar route. Everything in moderation, right? :)

18 Sara @ Nourish and Flourish October 21, 2012 at 1:07 am

Your Saturday morning sounds *very* familiar. 😉 I always go to bed Friday nights with the best of intentions: Wake up at a decent hour (decent to me is 8:00 or 9:00am), and tackle the day with gusto–checking off errands x, y, and z + some. However, the reality is more like this: sleep in till 10:00 or 11:00 (welp), and walk out the door by 2:00…or, as was the case today, 4:00. If I’m not up and at ’em early, I figure I might as well continue the “lazy” trend and make the most of my leisurely morning. :) Even though this schedule isn’t optimal in my mind, I think there’s something to be said for allowing ourselves a day or two each week to completely relax and decompress. :)

I’ve thumbed through the Martha Stewart cookie book, and you’re so right–every recipe is swoon-worthy. Your oatmeal chocolate chip cookies look amazing; the birthday party crowd were lucky recipients. And yep, I almost always bring a treat to “share” at parties. It’s hard to find gluten free desserts!

Happy weekend! xoxo <3

I am always envious of your bowls of cereal, they look delicious! Especially the Puffins and Kashi, which, being in Australia, I have no access to ): I’m a pretty early riser (I usually get up between 7:30-8:30, in comparsion to my friends who get up at noon!), and I too find that if I stay in my pajamas, pottering around the house, nothing gets done and my whole is pretty much ruined!
I’ve lately been bringing mini lemon and raspberry cheesecakes to parties, and they are just divine! I tried cheesecake for the first time in January, and have been wondering where they’ve been all my life!
I’ve never been able to say no to a good old white choc macadamia cookie from Subway. I used to have them quite a bit when I was little, so they are very nostalgic!

I’d throw a party and invite you for the chance to try some lemon and raspberry cheesecakes! They sound -divine-. It’s funny because chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are pretty nostalgic for me… maybe that’s why I always turn to them when I’m baking

21 Natasha October 21, 2012 at 5:13 am

Ya I need to get ready or else my day doesn’t go well. I don’t stay in my pajamas past 8…or else I feel really lazy, which I HATE!!!!

Wow I don’t know how you would choose….all of those cookies seem wonderful.
However, cookies aren’t my favorite. Actually, it is probably the last dessert I would choose. I more gravitate towards fruity desserts (sorbets, trifle, etc.) and pies (especially pumpkin and apple).

When I am not in school it is really hard to get myself moving on the weekends. In school there is always something to do. Now on Sundays I have church so that gets me up and going nice and early! I love making things for parties! I want to see what others think of dishes I love to eat and make! Favorite cookie is oatmeal raisin, always has been… i was a weird child!

Weird? Pft, no way! Oatmeal raisin cookies are -fantastic-! They’re pretty much the kind I grew up on as well; later I just swapped out the raisins for chocolate chips. You’ve got me craving the raisin kind now, though…. Grr! 😛

27 Tessa @ Amazing Asset October 21, 2012 at 7:35 am

Absolutely and this was my day yesterday as a matter of fact! Well actually I didn’t wake up until 10:30 which is basically unheard of for me… I managed to get 12.5 hours of sleep on Friday night! Nursing school with it’s insane early wake up times (for me anyway) has started to take a toll on me, so yeah apparently I needed the extra sleep! Anyway, I woke up around then and suddenly it was 4 and I had yet to do anything related to being productive, and you guessed it, still in my pjs :) I started to get anxious about it, but then I realized it’s okay to have a day like this, and clearly my body needed it
Those cookies sound most glorious, I likely would have gone for the magic blondies!

12.5 hours of sleep?! Girl, I’m SO jealous – I never seem to be able to get more than 6 :( Nursing school does sound like it has a pretty brutal schedule though, so definitely take advantage of any rest you can get!

29 Albizia October 21, 2012 at 7:40 am

Sometimes I have this problem too. I’m just so tired I can’t make myself get out of bed another morning. Today I didn’t wake up late considering the fact that at almost 1 am I was still awake but I simply stayed in bed until the battery of my phone died around 11 am. I guess it’s OK to have some me time every once in a while and what better time than (sometimes stolen) weekends?

30 Sam @ Better With Sprinkles October 21, 2012 at 7:56 am

Love those lazy Saturday mornings! It’s a great excuse to NOT be productive. 😀 But I pretty much start every morning the same way (robe or PJ’s, blog reading on the couch – yay not having class until 11:30 most days of the week!) and I enjoy a relaxing morning.

Favourite type of cookie? Ugh, it’s like picking my favourite child (if you know, i had any). I would say either: chocolate chip oatmeal (aka, I want those cookies) white chocolate macadamia nut, cookies with M & Ms or peanut butter chocolate chip. Yup, I’m pretty indecisive. :-p

Curious, is it a peanut allergy?

See, I was always the crazy one who took 8 AM classes because I’d rather have it over and done with quick and have the rest of the day free [to study and do homework ] And yes… it’s a pesky peanut allergy. Buggers…

32 kris October 21, 2012 at 10:19 am

mmmm chocolate chip oatmeal.
I”ve definitely noticed that if I start my day the moment I wake up, I’m a whole lot more productive than if I just kind of lounge around for a while before getting a move on it. But we all need those lounge-y days! :)
I like to bring desserts to parties because it gives me a chance to make something I normally wouldn’t make, plus there are more people there to eat it. (aka: i won’t single-handedly eat all of it). I don’t think I’m partial to one kind of cookie. I like to be fair 😉 I do particularly enjoy a good cookie that is crispy on the edges and soft and chewy towards the middle.

Not going to lie – I always deem weekends my “jammy” days. I go for a nice run, shower and then just put my PJs back on because I believe the weekends are meant for R&R :)

Wow that cook book looks like it has every single cookie known to man. I would have to say my favorite cookies are snickerdoodles or double chocolate cookies!

Oh I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that I will be lazy on weekends. After working long hours all week, I never allow myself to feel guilt for lounging around in my PJs all weekend – work clothes suck so I need to make up for the discomfort with extra PJ-wearing time :)

I’m not sure if I have a favorite cookie – definitely something with chocolate though. Oatmeal raisin come in at a close second. Ahh I really want to make cookies now….maybe tonight :)

Psh, weekends are meant for being lazy – don’t feel bad about it! 😉

And I totally feel ya on the desserts thing. I can rarely eat what is offered at parties! Even if nuts aren’t in the actual food, there’s still a chance of contamination. I don’t trust that people always clean their knives and cutting boards properly! 😛 So like you, I always end up bringing snacks/desserts to parties so I know that there is at least one thing I can eat!

Haha! Your Saturday is what today is turning into for ME! I’ve been up for two hours…made breakfast…had my (decaf) coffee…and now I’m getting sucked into blogworld! Since I took basically all of last week off, I’m a bit behind in reading, so I wanted to catch up a bit, but now I can’t pull myself away! I don’t really have anything important to do today besides a hair appointment at 1pm, but I DID intend on doing something productive before I have to go in for my shift tonight…ugh, first day back after five days off! So not looking forward to THAT! I do like being lazy some days (and I know that sometimes your body just needs the break) but it’s hard not to feel a little guilty about being a bum all day long! Lol

I love making something to bring to a party! It’s one of the only times that I actually get to try out any of the baking recipes I’ve been saving (hoarding) for a rainy day. My favorite cookies are almond shortbread…the real kind…with lots of butter! 😀
