. thinking out loud #149 .

September 24, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 109 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Hi from the office-away-from-home (aka Bux)! It’s another gloomy day in these parts, making hanging out in a cozy coffee shop that much more enjoyable. And have we seen the cute fall-inspired coffee cups yet? I saw them on a few blogs and figured they were only in select shops, but lo-and-behold my Bux was just waiting for the first day of fall to bust them out. They don’t really hold a candle to the infamous red cups, but they’re still super cute.

Starnnucks Fall Cup

2. My brain is feeling a little slow on the uptake this morning. What’s say we get the randomness ball rolling with a few random facts, eh? Ehhh.

RF Swimming on the Moon

RF Texting in Class

RF Avid Gamer

RF Pauses in Head

RF Bae

1. I must be living under a rock because I actually had to Google “is there water on the moon?” Apparently there is, but you can’t exactly swim in it.
2. Because that’s -exactly- what kids are texting about during class…
3. Not that I included this in there because I’m positively biased about gaming or anything…
4. It. Most. Certainly. Does.
5. Think about that before you call someone your ‘bae.’ <– that word needs to go away.

3. And here’s a bit of Spoons randomness for ya — I actually cleaned the keyboard on my laptop a few days ago [after not cleaning it in… forever], and I can’t believe how much nicer it feels to type on. I also can’t believe how grimy I let it get. The joys of being a food blogger… and of eating all your meals/snacks by the computer. Gross 😯

4. And this is one of the reasons I love waking up so early. Those sunrises, though!

Fall Sunrise

Nevermind that it takes the sun a good two point five hours to actually rise after I wake up… it’s still a gorgeous sight to see. I don’t think anything will ever beat the sunrise I saw over Haleakala Crater in Maui, though. Totally worth waking up at 3am and driving up a curvy mountain road in the pitch black darkness…

Haleakala Sunrise

5. Speaking of travels, guess who’s going to the mountains this weekend!? This girl! I feel like it’s been way too long since I’ve been up there (apparently I need snow on the ground to motivate me to make the drive), and I’m needing some soul-soothing mountain goodness in my life. I’m also needing to say goodbye to this girl before she makes the trek back east. Sad times in AB…

Me and Sam at Dinner

6. But happy times at the dentist! Which I realize sounds like a complete contradictory statement, but I went in for a routine cleaning a while back and came out with a set of perfectly healthy teeth — awesome news for someone who’s got a predisposition for teeth (tooth?) issues. I totally credit the oil pulling for that one. I’m still doing it every other day and it’s made a huge difference in my oral health.

Coconut Oil Pulling

7. Anyone else get super paranoid about completing software updates on their phone? iOS 9 came out recently, and I’m always afraid that doing an update is going to break something or introduce changes I don’t like. I’ll still end up doing it, though, because the OCD part of my brain can’t cope with the little notification on my settings button.

iPhone Update

And, yes… I keep a winter wallpaper on my phone all year long. And, yes, I’m looking forward to being able to go snowboarding soon. Please refrain from throwing things at me πŸ˜›

8. It’s no secret that I have a slight obsession with jelly beans, which is why I get super excited when I come across a new-to-me brand to try. I picked up a bag of Jolly Rancher jelly beans the other day, and I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan. They’re not terrible, but they’re a little too artificial tasting, if that makes sense. My regular no name store brand tastes like lightly flavoured sugar, whereas these just taste like straight up chemicals. Probably because they are.

Jolly Rancher Jelly Beans

9. Speaking of colourful chemicals… Mom asked me to help her pick out some paint for her new place, which is probably the worst thing to ask someone who’s super indecisive. I don’t think she appreciated my suggestion to paint the whole house with chalkboard paint so that I could draw on the walls πŸ˜†

Paint Swatches

10. Aaaaaand happy Thursday, friendly faces! πŸ˜€

Okay, now I totally want to go swimming on the moon, LOL. And yes to the word “bae” needing to go away – ech… gives me the twitches when I hear it! I’ve been holding off on the 9 update for the same reasons – I’d rather them work out the kinks before I hit install πŸ˜‰ But girl, get through those emails! I have 2 phantom emails that WON’T go away and it drives me insane. There is always a little 2 there even if my inbox is empty. Argh – first world problems, ha.

New phones are so exciting! I had the 4 (not even the s!) before I got my 6 and it was the biggest upgrade. I couldn’t even access social media on my old phone because it would freeze up more often than not.

I havent had starbucks in forever, but now I want to go just so I can get that cup. How freaking cute is that?!
And I can’t wait to move for SO many reasons, but one of the major ones is how close I will be to nature and mountains and fresh air! Gosh city living is smothering me with smog. BLEH!
I still haven’t tried oil pulling. Gosh I really want to, but I’m totally scared. But you said you do it every other day, so I could probably manage that! The other part is I literally use SO much coconut oil, Im probably going to go broke using it to swish in my mouth too! haha

Bae for sure needs to go away. It is terrible!

I’m a mountains person and don’t care much for hot weather, so I am all about photos of snow in the summer. It makes me feel like maybe it isn’t so unbearably hot outside!

I love the new Starbucks cups! Now I need to do a Starbucks run today!

I get very paranoid with Apple updates. I usually wait for the second version of a new iOS to come out because of bug fixes. My 5S is very full though….so I would have to probably delete some pictures and whatnot.

I’m so bad about cleaning my keyboard. It’s only once I actually wipe it off that I realize how sticky it was before, particularly since I tend to snack around my computer.

And the updates make me so paranoid. I’ve had multiple laptop issues in the past (all Apple products seem to hate me), and I’m always worried the update will crash everything. Although, my sister just tried to update her iPod and it DID crash. They called Apple; apparently the new update is crashing a lot of iPods and iPhones. Now I don’t want to update mine! The number drives me crazy, but I’m trying to hold out for a while.

I think the reason I love the red ones so much is because they remind me of Christmas, which is my favourite time of the year. And this is actually the first time I’ve seen the fall cups, so they’ll take a while to grow on me.

πŸ˜† I’ve been trying to cut myself off from the jelly beans as well. Baby steps. And if you’re having issues with going with a full tablespoon, start with a smaller amount and work your way up. You could also just start from 5 minutes and work your way up from there as well. Also, try going with a better tasting oil (like coconut) so it’s not that horrible. It’s all about getting used to it!

At the risk of being the odd one out I’ll say I like the fall-themed better than the red cups. This alone would probably tempt me to buy a drink at Starbucks but given the next one’s 1 1/2 hours [by car, don’t ask about public transport …] away the chances of it actually happening are low.
#3 … I should do the same, I really should. I keep saying I will but then don’t know how and leave it at that. How did you clean it?
And: do Danish people use the term ‘bae’ on Instagram? I’d be curious to know. But I only ever found out what it meant recently, haven’t used it yet and have no plans of doing in the future. Odd one out again …

I think my love for the red cups comes with the fact that they remind me of Christmas, which is my favourite time of the year. And I’ve honestly never used the term ‘bae’ either, so you’re not alone on that one. The keyboard? Just took a damp cloth and wiped it down while the computer was off. Nothing fancy, but it got rid of most of the grime.

I actually just went to the dentist too – I also have a history of a bunch of dental problems, although they’re all related to bad luck accidents I had earlier in life! I’m curious about oil pulling though and was thinking about it last night – and now you mention it here. Must be a sign πŸ™‚

Definitely worth a shot! Takes some getting used to, but now it’s such a huge part of my morning routine that I can’t imagine going without it. And I like the squeaky clean feel πŸ˜›

It would make me so happy to send you all our snow!

I haven’t even updated iOS 8 yet . . . or set up iTunes on our new computer, which is no longer new . . .

But I am loving the cooler mornings! I can actually run before walking the dogs now & that makes my life easier. Except today, because I have a meeting, I can’t do both before I leave so the dogs get walked & I have to run this afternoon.

Hope you had good weather on your run! It actually warmed up [for one day] today, but I’m pretty sure we’re due cold weather again soon.

My friend was just telling me last night that she did the latest update and didnt like it. I always think they take some getting used to!
I haven’t seen those Starbucks cups! That might mean I am due for a trip there this weekend…

I ended up updating mine and haven’t really noticed any huge changes. Apparently they improved the maps and I -swear- the typing keyboard looks a little bit different, but other than that? Nothing horrible.

Those new Starbucks cups are SO cute- way to make coffee that much more enjoyable to drink!! I’m totally with you about updating my software. My friends always laugh at me because I almost never update. The last time I updated my software on my iPhone 4s, it messed up my wifi connection so that no matter what, it just wouldn’t connect to the wifi at home. And trust me, I tried EVERYTHING to get it to work but I was reconciled with the explanation that “there was a glitch with the software update”—> er thanks Apple!!

Bah! I hate it when that happens. And then you have to wait for “bug fixes.” But I ended up updating mine yesterday and haven’t run in to any problems yet *knock on wood*

Wow that sunrise though!! And I don’t even get the whole Bae thing so I would be very okay with it going away. I was oil pulling a while back and stopped – I can’t remember why, but as someone who comes from a family of horrible teeth, I should really start again!

I actually had to Google what it meant when I first heard it. Kids these days and their slang πŸ˜†
