. chocolate chip cookie dough protein balls .
Perfect as a pre-workout snack, these little balls will give you the energy you need to kick some serious butt during your next sweat session. Or, enjoy them anytime you need to satisfy a sweet-tooth.
Ingredients (makes 4 balls)
- ¼ cup raw, unsalted almonds
- 3 large dates
- 2 Tbsp. rolled oats
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 Tbsp. mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Throw almonds into a food processor/blender (I use the Magic Bullet short cup) and process until you reach the consistency of a medium-grain meal.
- Add dates, and process until fully combined. This may take some patience and fiddling.
- Add oats and protein powder, and process until fully combined.
- Transfer dough to a small bowl, and add in chocolate chips. It will be a little crumbly at first, but work it with your hands until everything sticks together.
- Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into balls.
- Store any unused balls in a tightly closed container in the fridge.

Happy Eating!

Yum! All I need is dates! What do dates taste like, by the way? I keep wanting to try them but they’re pretty expensive for not knowing what to expect
Hmm. They taste like… caramel
They’re nature’s candy!

Hi there-
A fellow Albertan:) I think you and I are from the exact same place….hmm:)
I made these and they are amazing-I have tried several of the ball recipes from around the blogs and this one is my favorite-I also find that they actually make a (albeit small-lol) dent in my hunger as compared to others I’ve tried-maybe the protein powder. Anyway-thansk for this one. Thank you also for showing a healthy woman who is a healthy weight that actually eats!! I am SO SICK of the mentality that 1500 cals is normal!!! AAARGHHH!!!
Have a great May long week-end!

Made these this morning, ahhh-mazing! Added coconut flakes and a tablespoon of milk to keep them together better. You were right – i probably won’t need to freeze them because they’ll be gone by tomorrow! Thanks

Just made these!!! Mine didn’t stick together so well…probably used too many dates. I used four sun dates, thinking that you were using HUGE modjul dates. Oh well..now I have a nice protein sticky paste in my fridge for random spoonfuls. Probably would make a great pre-workout am snack before rushing out the door!

Hey guys
I’ve been looking at a lot of these types of snacks. I really need something to kill my 3 o’clock sugar craving. Enter dates. My problem is I am allergic to nuts. All the reciepes use nuts as a staple. Any ideas of a substitute.
Thanks

Sweetgoodness! These balls sound uh-mazing! Can’t wait to try them
Pinned to my “Ballin’ Balls” board to share with the rest of the world – hope that’s okay btw?
Definitely okay
Hello Amanda!
I would love to try these cookie dough balls, but was wondering if there’s a substitute for protein powder? I don’t own any protein powder, and would rather not buy any…….is there something I can use instead, or just leave the powder out altogether?
Hope you have a marvelous day!

Hmm. To be honest, I’m not too sure. The powder is mostly for flavoring and keeping the balls from being too sticky, but I suppose you could use a few more spoonfuls of oats and some vanilla extract to get the same effect.
I am going to try and make them with coconut milk powder. It has the same consistency.
kayyy, we have no almonds (for once in my life. what is this.) but we do have a ton of walnuts… so I’m going to make them with those and see how it goes! wish me luck ;P

Hey lady, hope all is well. I am in interweb love with reading Running With Spoons!! So much so I’m sharing your Cookie Dough Ball Recipe on my Blog (http://smilingrunningshoes.blogspot.com) this upcoming Saturday (5/26/13). I have recently, starting today, given up fast food in an attempt to tone up this flabby behind of mind. I’m just a closet foodie who isn’t ready to give up things that taste good, BUT I know there are healthier options out there that still taste good. These look better than anything I’ve pulled out of a fast food bag. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to more great insight.
